Roman conquest under Lucius Mummius was followed by the destruction of the Greek city and a century of effective abandonment.

Roman refoundation. Julius Caesar refounded Corinth as a Roman colony, with Augustan implementation making the rebuilt city capital of the province of Achaea and adding shops, basilicas and bath buildings around the agora.

Corinth Excavations. The American School of Classical Studies at Athens began the long-running Corinth Excavations, recovering the agora, Temple Hill, Peirene fountain and Roman colony layers.
- 1932
Archaeological Museum. The Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth opened on the site as a study and display building for the excavation finds.
