The Ottoman period closed the ramparts and laid out the walled medina fabric from the end of the sixteenth century onward.
- 1600-1899
Mosques, Ottoman-period palaces, hammams, fountains, and courtyard houses accumulated across the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries into the present urban ensemble.
- 1830
French colonial works after 1830 altered parts of the lower Casbah and the waterfront and imposed a different street geometry on the harbor edge.
- 2012
Local heritage planning under the PPSMVSS safeguarding plan set the modern framework for conservation of the medina.
