The Royal Mint (Kungliga myntet) was established on Mynttorget in the late seventeenth century, forming the original building fabric on this site in Gamla stan. The site later served as the Chancellery before twentieth-century…

Olof Tempelman and Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz designed the portico facing Mynttorget, with its temple gable and Doric columns, in the 1790s. The portico was preserved when the current building replaced the older structure.
