An Ottoman geologist recorded the summit sanctuary in 1881, the first modern documentation of the site.
- 1953
The American archaeologist Theresa Goell began the first systematic survey and excavation campaign on the terraces, continuing for two decades.
- 1984-1985
Karl Dörner and his team carried out a stabilisation campaign on the west terrace and reset several fallen statue heads near their original bases.
